In Memoriam

Karen Niles

30 Years of Serving The Community

Although she often claimed to be part dog, Karen Niles actually was just a beautiful person made of pure heart. This dedicated OC Animal Allies volunteer of nearly 30 years passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, following a brief experience with cancer.

Karen and six family dogs had brought comfort to countless people of all ages at the Orangewood Children and Family Center, Psychiatric hospitals, Nursing homes and libraries throughout Southern California. Wherever they went, they formed a unique and uplifting connection with people of all ages, offering comfort and warmth.

She will be remembered for her boundless energy, intrepid organizational skills, quick wit, indomitable optimism and feistiness, and limitless kindness. She is survived by her husband, sister, three daughters, two sons, and Piper, who is a dream dog.

In lieu of sending flowers, we warmly invite you to honor this special organization that was so near and dear to Karen, and where she gave so much of her time. Your generosity will help continue the vital work of supporting animals in need, and fostering the magic and power of the human-animal bond in Karen’s memory and honor.
