Patriot’s Story

In Memoriam

A lifetime Serving The Community

Patriot proudly served as the official mascot of Orange County Animal Allies from 2012 to 2024.  Sadly however, this beautiful blue eyed Siberian Husky had a very rough start that nearly ended his life. The signature markings visible around his face and muzzle were what remained from cruel abuse. At just 12 weeks of age in the summer of 2012, he was permanently scared by an abuser who deliberately wrapped his mouth tightly shut with metal wire and severed part of his tongue. While we will never understand why this could happen to such a young and innocent puppy, we are grateful that he was able to be rescued from a life of cruelty, and rise up to serve and inspire a community.

Patriot was rescued by Husky Camp Siberian Rescue, where Kevin Marlin, our Executive Director took charge of his care and recovery. He received life saving treatment for both his physical and his mental wounds. Through love, patience and months of training and re-socializing, Patriot was able to overcome his abuse and the fear that came from it. At a mere 11 months he began working as a representitive and therapy dog, where his signature and unforgettable scared face and deep blue eyes brought emotional and spiritual healing to those he met- often without a spoken word. Patriot proudly served as a beacon of resilience, survival and hope. While abuse often leaves invisible scars, Patriot wore the memory of his abuse in the form of those signature scars circling his muzzle. His smiling, scared face serves as a reminder of the hope and good that can rise up with love, care and respect.

Patriot or “Pater Tot” as he was affectionatly named by the children he helped, was named to symbolize the battle for his freedom from abuse, and for his Red and White coloring and Blue eyes. The revenge against his abuser came from the satisfaction of him having a wonderful, meaningful and often spoiled life- something his abuser tried to prevent. Patriot moved on past his abuse and survived; bringing smiles, peace and healing to the community.  His courage was the inspiration behind several programs to OC Animal Allies, including the PANDA victim assistance program with the Orange County District Attorney.

Patriot crossed the bridge on July 29th, 2024. Our peace is in what he left behind – thousands of hearts touched, inspired and healed in his own magical and special way. Patriot’s legacy will continue on to educate, inspire and heal those through his inspiration.
